I use a variety of gloves on the bag for different kinds of striking training. All of them interfere if I want to do more than striking in a circuit, and they are too restrictive of the wrist for dirty boxing and practicing awkward angles. These give me the right amount of protection for bare knuckle striking and are easy on/off so I can move to kettlebells, ball slams, or even barbell/hex bar work in concert with the heavy bag.
If you like hitting the heavy bag raw (no gloves) then these punch pads are for you!
They:
1. Protect your hands
2. Make it easier to practice uppercuts specifically
3. Encourages proper form.
I absolutely love these things because now I can hit the heavy bag without gloves and not worry about bleeding over the bag.
Also: the audio cue you get from hitting the bag sounds like a snap so you can really hear the tempo/ cadence of your combos.
It's convenient..... Like really convenient to slip on and off. Pretty incredible to skip the hassle of wrapping up your wrists and putting on smelly gloves. As my brother said "they take all the pain out of the punch" (as he inspects the glove trying to figure out how something that fits in your back pocket could protect your fists so well)
Next level!! Not being a boxer but just hitting the bag for testing biomechanics kinetic potentials of coillng, of different foot work and of different pulsing rhythms, the pads are amazing . Easy on and off. Minimum fuzz. My knuckles and core fists ARE HAPPY AS!!
These pads allow me to hit a double end bag as hard as I can with no pain. It also works using a heavy reflex ball. One advantage is that they’re weightless unlike wraps and gloves. And unlike gloves the go on in a second.
